NOTE: Stringent Care must be taken when fishing in all of the coastal estuaries and river systems . Crocodiles are present in these systems all year round and the foot angler could place themselves in
great danger. DO NOT swim in these waters, do not fish from the bank, Do Not clean yourself or your catch from the waters edge. Also the Box Jellyfish is in abundance along the coast line at certain times of the year.
River/Estuary Fishing is popular for catching the famous barramundi, Mangrove Jack and Queen Fish among others. You will find people fishing all around these areas of cairns.
Reef Fishing is popular for catching Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Sweet Lip and more. It's most effective with heavy hand lines (average 80lb or more).
Blue Water Sport Fishing is famous for catch in the the Black Marlin, Giant Trevally, Yellow Fin Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Sail Fish, Dogtooth Tuna and more
If you want to maximise your opportunity, charter a fishing vessel/boat for a day, overnight or extended trips are available. They are well equipped and have the knowledge of when and where to fish.
